Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined over 50 million spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete US average was 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various languages.
